Opening up of aviation sector to private players has made it much easier for young girls to get the job of Air Hostess than ever in India. Although job requirements and eligibility have not changed much, opportunities in terms of vacancies has multiplied in recent years. Job of air hostess is considered as one of the most lucrative jobs for girls not graduated in professional courses such as medical. engineering or management.Besides flight stewards, air hostesses also form the cabin crew to help customers travel comfortably.When compared to other jobs with similar eligibility and qualifications, salary of an air hostess is generally high as starting salary is between Rs 25000-50000 in a domestic airliner. Private airlines may offer higher salary and other job related benefits that go much higher if airliner is an international flier.

Air India is looking to fill up approx. 300 vacancies of Trainee cabin crew. Girls/boys having matriculation certificate with 10+2 qualifications. Last date is October 6, 2015.Three years 'Diploma in Hotel Management & Catering' is being considered as a desirable qualification. In addition to salary, air hostesses are entitled for other benefits like free or subsidized air travel benefits, hotel expenses, car rental and even cruises. Some of the benefits are also extended to dependents of the air hostesses. Promotion avenues are unlimited for sincere and dynamic workers. An air hostess may be promoted to senior flight attendant,head attendant and other jobs bundled with more perks and benefits. Salary may range between INR 50,000 - 80,000 per month in domestic and may range between INR 1.5 to 3.0 lakh in international airlines.

Some air lines have their own training programs and selected candidates are required to undergo the prescribed training.However, a diploma in tourism and travel may be treated as a preferred qualification by some select airlines. Any girl with a fair complexion, 5'2" taller with a proportionate body weight, is considered suitable for the job if she is both physically and mentally fit. Most of the airlines would look for the leadership traits, team spirit and ability to adept to any adverse situation since such traits are the demand of the job. Swimming is considered a preferred specialization for the recruitment of cabin crew of an airlines.

Responsibilities of the air hostess involve greeting passengers with smile while boarding the flight, demonstrating emergency devices, serving the passengers with meals and drinks and attending special needs of sick, handicap, old age passengers and children. Since passengers are drawn from various class,category and regions, air hostess's tasks involve knowledge of additional languages other than Hindi. Generally, fluency in English is a desired qualification for air hostess even in domestic airlines. A pleasant personality with good manners and curtsey comes under essentially required parameters for successful discharge of the duties. Normally graduates are preferred for this profession but minimum qualification is either metric or plus two depending upon the airlines' requirements.Since air hostess's job is not a 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM job, unmarried girls are recruited for the job. Girls may try their luck for the job after attaining the age of 18 years if they think themselves capable of undergoing the air hostess training course. There are several reputed training institutes in India that impart various trainings to candidates including that of air hostess.
